Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - "Can't Hold Us" featuring Ray Dalton Video, Review and Lyrics

Lyrics

[Verse 1: Macklemore]
Return of the Mack - get up
What it is, what it does, what it is, what it isn't
Looking for a better way to get up out of bed
Instead of getting on the internet and checking a new hit
We get up, fresh out, pimp strut walking
Little bit of humble, little bit of cautious
Somewhere between like, Rocky and Cosby, Sweater Gang
Nope, Nope. y'all can't copy that
Bad, moonwalkin', This here, is our party
My posse's been on broadway, and we did it our way
Grown music
I shed my skin and put my bones into everything I record to it
And yet I'm on
Let that stage light go and shine on down
Got the Bob Barker suit game and Plinko in my style
Money
Stay on my craft and stick around for those pounds
But I do that to pass the torch and put on for my town
Trust me, on my I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T shit hustling
Chasing dreams since I was 14
With the 4 track, bussing
Halfway cross that city with the backpack, fat cat, crush shit
Labels out here, nah they can't tell me nothing
We give it to the people, spread it across the country
Labels out here, nah they can't tell me nothing
We give it to the people, spread it across the country

[Hook x2 Ray Dalton]
And then we go back, this is the moment
Tonight is the night, we'll fight till it's over
So we put our hands up like the ceiling can't hold us
Like the ceiling can't hold us

[Verse 2: Macklemore]

Now, can I kick it? Thank you
Yeah I'm so damn grateful
I grew up really wanting gold fronts
But that's what you get when Wu-Tang raised you
Y'all can't stop me, I go hard like I've got an 808 in my heart beat
And I'm eating at the beat
Like you gave a little speed to a great white shark on shark week
(Raw! Time to go off. Gone)? Deuces, goodbye
I've got a world to see;
And my girl, She wanna see Rome
Caesar'll make you a believer
Nah, I never ever did it for a throne
That validation comes
So I'm giving it back to the people now
Sing that song and it goes like...
Raise those hands, this is our party
We came here to live life like nobody was watching
I got my city right behind me;
If I fall they got me
Learn from that failure, gain humility
Then we keep marching, I said

[Hook x2 Ray Dalton]

[Bridge] And all my people say' "Na na NAna na naNA na"

[Hook x2 Ray Dalton]

Review

"Can't Hold Us" is a fitting follow up to the massive breakthrough hit "Thrift Shop" from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. It expresses gratitude and a feeling of unity with fans and supporters. The rhythmic horn choruses are instantly catchy inspiring listeners to sing along with guest vocalist Ray Dalton. Macklemore and his musical partner Ryan Lewis sound like they are settling in to stay for awhile.

Pros

  • Community celebration atmosphere
  • Horn-infused rhythmic production
  • Ray Dalton's guest vocals

Cons

  • Lacking slightly in the humor and immediacy of "Thrift Shop"

Description

  • Written by Ben Haggerty
  • Produced by Ryan Lewis
  • Released August 2011 by Macklemore

Guide Review - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - "Can't Hold Us" featuring Ray Dalton

"Can't Hold Us" kicks off with a marching beat accented by piano that leads directly into a rapid fire delivery from Macklemore. He explains his reasons for rapping and declares that no one will stand in his way. This gives way to a smooth R&B chorus from Seattle singer Ray Dalton that takes the song toward epic status. During the second verse from Macklemore horns kick in as "Can't Hold Us" continues to build to the world party of the final two minutes of the song. There is a driving energy that is infectious and self assured. With attention focused on the hip hop duo, hit status was guaranteed.

The production here by Ryan Lewis crackles with live energy. In place of slick studio effects, "Can't Hold Us" sounds almost like it could have been recorded on a street corner. There is a strong organic feel that threads through all of the work of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. You will want to throw your hands in the air, "Like the ceiling can't hold us."

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are the biggest new breakthrough act on the pop charts for 2013 thus far. "Thrift Shop" used humor to find its way on to pop charts. "Can't Hold Us" follows with the irresistible sound of a community anthem. If there is a down side this song sacrifices a bit of clever wordplay, but the sentiment is a strongly positive one. This is a well deserved follow up hit.

Luke Bryan "That's my Kind of Night" Live Video, Lyrics and Review

Lyrics
I got that real good feel good stuff
Up under the seat of my big black jacked up truck
Rollin' on 35s
Pretty girl by my side

You got that sun tan skirt and boots
Waiting on you to look my way and scoot
Your little hot self over here
Girl hand me another beer, yeah!

All them other boys wanna wind you up and take you downtown
But you look like the kind that likes to take it way out
Out where the corn rows grow, row, row my boat
Floatin’ down the Flint River, catch us up a little catfish dinner
Gonna sound like a winner, when I lay you down and love you right
Yeah, that’s my kind of night!

Might sit down on my diamond plate tailgate
Put in my country rock hip-hop mixtape
Little Conway, a little T-Pain, might just make it rain

You can hang your t-shirt on a limb
Hit that bank and we can ease on in
Soak us up a little moonlight
You know I know what you like, yeah!

Yeah, that’s my kind of night!

My kind of your kind of its this kind of night
We dance in the dark and your lips land on mine
Gonna get our love on
Time to get our buzz on

All them other boys wanna wind you up and take you downtown
But you look like the kind that likes to take it way out
Out where the corn rows grow, row, row my boat
Floatin’ down the Flint River, catch us up a little catfish dinner
Gonna sound like a winner, when I lay you down and love you right
Yeah, that’s my kind of night!
Yeah, that’s my kind of night!
Yeah, that’s my kind of night!
Yeah, that’s my kind of night!
Come on...
Review
Luke Bryan‘s new single ‘That’s My Kind of Night’ promises to be his most controversial release to date. The singer goes all-in on the country-rap style that — despite loud objections from traditionalists — is covering the radio like kudzu. He sounds both horribly out of place and right at home.

Lyrically, the trio of songwriters have put together a story that relies on every imaginable hip-hop and country cliche. Big tires, a feel-good bottle of booze, corn rows (on a farm, not a human head), superstar name checks, love under the moonlight and bling … there’s hardly an original thought in this song. Most aren’t even original to Bryan’s catalog.

The chorus goes: “All them other boys wanna wind you up and take you downtown / But you look like the kind that likes to take it way out / Out where the corn rows grow, row, row my boat / Floatin’ down the Flint River, catch us up a little catfish dinner / Gonna sound like a winner, winner when I lay you down and love you right / Yeah, that’s my kind of night.

(Note to communities along Georgia’s Flint River: boost your tourism budget, because after this third name check in a country single since 2008, things are about to get real.)

There is something wonderfully charming about Bryan’s performance, however, and despite one ill-advised “uh-uh” early in the intro, the production comes across as corny-cool. Bryan makes a living with corny-cool.

Might sit down on my diamond plate tailgate / Put in my country ride hip-hop mixtape / Little Conway, a little T-Pain, might just make it rain,” he sings in the second verse, before the clothes start coming off.

You can hang your t-shirt on a limb / Hit that bank and we can ease on in / Soak us up a little moonlight / You know I know what you like, yeah.”

‘That’s My Kind of Night’ is an eye-roller from start to finish, but Bryan’s absolute commitment makes it tolerable, if not enjoyable in the right setting. So far, only Brantley Gilbert has been able to pen a hip-hop-influenced single that finds that sweet spot between the two genres. With the right song down the road, Bryan could give the mixup a real chance to thrive on country radio.

Lady Gaga Applause Video, Review and Lyrics

Lyrics

I stand here waiting for you to bang the gong to crash the critic saying
Is it right or is it wrong?
If only Fame had an IV
Baby could I bare being away from you
I found the vein, put it in here

I live for the Applause, Applause, Applause
I live for the Applause-plause
Live for the Applause-plause
Live for the way that you cheer and scream for me
The applause, applause, applause

Give me the thing that I love
(turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make em touch
(make it real loud)
Give me the thing that I love
(turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make em touch
(make it real loud)

A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E
Make it real loud
Put your hands up, make em touch, touch
A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E
Make it real loud
Put your hands up, make em touch, touch

I've overheard your theory
Nostalgia's for geeks
I guess sir, if you say so
Some of us just like to read

One second i'm a kunst
Then suddenly the kunst is me
Pop culture was in Art now ART's in POP culture, in me!

I live for the Applause, Applause, Applause
I live for the Applause-plause
Live for the Applause-plause
Live for the way that you cheer and scream for me
The applause, applause, applause

Give me the thing that I love
(turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make em touch
(make it real loud)
Give me the thing that I love
(turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make em touch
(make it real loud)

A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E
Make it real loud
Put your hands up, make em touch, touch
A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E
Make it real loud
Put your hands up, make em touch, touch

Touch touch
Touch touch now

I live for the Applause, Applause, Applause
I live for the Applause-plause
Live for the Applause-plause
Live for the way that you cheer and scream for me
The applause, applause, applause

Give me the thing that I love

Review

Co-written and co-produced by her and DJ White Shadow, "Applause" is the official lead single from Lady Gaga's third full-length studio album "Artpop", due in stores November 11th, 2013 via Interscope Records. "Applause" falls quite nicely in the experimental pop category. It's got a catchy chorus, though. Lady Gaga was forced to premiere "Applause" one week before the scheduled August 19th release date due to leak rumors.

Roar by Katy Perry Video, Lyrics and Review

Lyrics:

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake your ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

[Chorus]
I got the eye of the tiger, the fire, dancing through the fire
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Louder, louder than a lion
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar

Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake your ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

[Chorus]
I got the eye of the tiger, the fire, dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar

Roar-or, roar-or, roar-or

I got the eye of the tiger, the fire, dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar

Review:

Katy Perry kicks off her hotly anticipated "Prism" era with a stylistic return to the arena-sized singer-songwriter formula that made her debut "One Of The Boys" so remarkable. Fans have already had a heyday of comparing the self-empowerment anthem's sound to Sara Bareilles -- specifically the singer-songwriter's current single "Brave" -- but that doesn't discredit the artistic statement implicit in the song's message. Admittedly, the lyrics rarely rise above easy clichés and rhymes ("I went from zero / to my own hero"), and the stomping mid-tempo beat leaves a little to be desired in the BPM department, compared to Perry's previous dance-pop bangers. However, "Roar" marks the first time Perry has led an album cycle without a novelty song ("I Kissed A Girl," "California Girls"), and the new single includes one of her strongest vocals in the process. Plus, the song's staccato-heavy, shout-along chorus sounds custom-made for a live setting -- and a really killer remix.

"Come & Get It" by Selena Gomez Video, Review and Lyrics

Review

Selena Gomez's coming of age story seems to be as dramatic and intriguing as the Hollywood scripts she gets offered. Whether it's shaking off that Disney shine with a starring role in Spring Breakers or her continuous on-off relationship with teen idol Justin Bieber, the starlet is never out of the gossip mag columns for too long. Looking to inject some of that I'm-a-woman-now attitude into her music career, she has dropped The Scene and gone it alone for her new single.

As the bhangra music-inspired intro merges into a dirty, fuzzy bassline, it's clear from the off Selena has ditched the pop sheen she has become known for. "If you're ready come and get it," she seductively suggests in a breathy tone that compliments the backdrop of grinding beats and one-night-stand synths that Rihanna has dominated over the past few years. It comes as no surprise that the track was originally intended for the Bajan star, but Gomez's take works just about enough to make sure her image as the girl next door is well and truly over.
Lyrics

[Chorus]
When you ready come and get it
Na na na na, na na na na, na na na na

[Verse 1]
You ain't gotta worry, it's an open invitation
I'll be sittin' right here, real patient
All day, all night, I'll be waitin' standby
Can't stop because I love it, hate the way I love you
All day, all night, maybe I'm addicted for life, no lie

[Bridge]
I'm not too shy to show I love you, I got no regrets
I love you much too much to hide you, this love ain't finished yet
This love ain't finished yet
So baby whenever you're ready

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
You got the kind of love that I want, let me get that
And baby once I get it, I'm yours no take-backs
Gon' love you for life, I ain't leaving your side
Even if you knock it, ain't no way to stop it
Forever you're mine, baby I'm addicted, no lie, no lie

[Bridge]
I'm not too shy to show I love you, I got no regrets
So baby whenever you're ready

[Chorus]

[Interlude]
This love will be the death of me
But I know I'll die happily
I'll know, I'll know, I'll know
Because you love me so
Yeah

Jason Derulo - "The Other Side" Video, Review and Lyrics

Review

Something very alarming happens five seconds into Jason Derulo's new single. "In the beginning I never thought it would be you," he sings in the opening bars, giving way to the sudden realisation that his Ja-sun Deruuulo tag - a catchphrase he has been keen to dismiss in the past ("if it doesn't feel right, we don't include it") - won't be making an appearance.

Fortunately, the rest of the song checks all the other boxes we've come to expect from the singer; including heart-meltingly soppy lyrics ("We got closer, so you were eating off my spoon"), an exhilarating, electro-swizzling chorus and plenty of topless shots in the accompanying music video. The result is nothing we haven't heard from him before, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Lyrics

"The Other Side"

In the beginning
I never thought it would be you
When we were chilling
Smiling in the photo booth
But we got closer (yeah)
Soon you were eating off my spoon
You're coming over
And we would talk all afternoon

Tonight we’ll just get drunk
Disturb the peace
Find your hands all over me
And then you bite your lip
Whisper and say, “We’re going all the way.”

Tonight
Take me to the other side
Sparks fly like the Fourth of July
Just take me to the other side
I see that sexy look in your eyes
And I know we ain’t friends anymore
If we walk down this road
We’ll be lovers for sure
So tonight kiss me like it’s do or die
And take me to the other side

This could be perfect (yeah)
But we won’t know unless we try (try)
I know you’re nervous
So just sit back and let me drive

Tonight we’ll just get drunk
Disturb the peace
Find your hands all over me
And then you bite your lip
Whisper and say, “We’re going all the way.”

Tonight
Take me to the other side
Sparks fly like the Fourth of July
Just take me to the other side
I see that sexy look in your eyes
And I know we ain’t friends anymore
If we walk down this road
We’ll be lovers for sure
So tonight kiss me like it’s do or die
And take me to the other side

(Whoa)

Kiss me like it’s do or die
And take me to the other side

Tonight we’ll just get drunk
Disturb the peace
Let your love crash into me
And then you bite your lip
Whisper and say, “We’re going all the way.”

Tonight
Take me to the other side
Sparks fly like the Fourth of July (yes, we do, yeah)
Just take me to the other side (take me, baby)
I see that sexy look in your eyes
And I know we ain’t friends anymore (oh, no)
If we walk down this road
We’ll be lovers for sure
So tonight (so tonight) kiss me like it’s do or die (kiss me, kiss me)
And take me to the other side

(Whoa)
Take me to the other side
(Whoa)
And take me to the other side
(Whoa)
Kiss me like it’s do or die
(Whoa)
And take me to the other side
(Jason Derulo)

Mirrors - Justin Timberlake Video, Review and Lyrics

Review

"Mirrors" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake for his third studio album, The 20/20 Experience (2013). It was written and produced by Timberlake, Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley and Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon, with additional writing from James Fauntleroy. The song was released on February 11, 2013 as the album's second single, following his performance at the 2013 Grammy Awards.  "Mirrors" is a pop song; its lyrics discuss a lover's "other half" after having taken a break in their relationship.

"Mirrors" was conceived in 2009. Producer Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon recalled: "He's like, 'I'm gonna save this one, and this is gonna go on my album.' We never knew when he was going to put it out – we were like, 'Aw man, you're in movies now!' We could have waited another 10, 15 years. But then he surprised us last year and said he was ready, and he brought ['Mirrors'] over to the project as well."

On February 10, 2013, Timberlake teased on his Twitter account stating that there would be a special surprise following his performance at the 2013 Grammys.  "Mirrors" was released to download the following day. "Mirrors" was available to buy as either as a stand-alone track or as an "instant-gratification download" when a customer pre-ordered The 20/20 Experience.  The single was physically released on March 1, 2013 in Germany, as a second single from the album.

Lyrics

Aren't you somethin' to admire, cause your shine is somethin' like a mirror
And I can't help but notice, you reflect in this heart of mine
If you ever feel alone and the glare makes me hard to find
Just know that I'm always parallell on the other side

[Pre-Hook]
Cause with your hand in my hand and a pocket full of soul
I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go
Just put your hand on the glass, I'll be tryin' to pull you through
You just gotta be strong

[Hook]
Cause I don't wanna lose you now
I'm lookin' right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart
Is a space that now you hold
Show me how to fight for now
And I'll tell you baby, it was easy
Comin' back into you once I figured it out
You were right here all along
It's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me
I couldn't get any bigger
With anyone else beside of me
And now it's clear as this promise
That we're making two reflections into one
Cause it's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me, staring back at me

[Verse 2]
Aren't you somethin', an original, cause it doesn't seem merely assembled
And I can't help but stare cause I see truth somewhere in your eyes
I can't ever change without you, you reflect me, I love that about you
And if I could, I would look at us all the time

[Pre-Hook]
Cause with your hand in my hand and a pocket full of soul
I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go
Just put your hand on the glass, I'll be tryin' to pull you through
You just gotta be strong

[Hook]
Cause I don't wanna lose you now
I'm lookin' right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart
Is a space that now you hold
Show me how to fight for now
And I'll tell you baby, it was easy
Comin' back into you once I figured it out
You were right here all along
It's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me
I couldn't get any bigger
With anyone else beside of me
And now it's clear as this promise
That we're making two reflections into one
Cause it's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me, staring back at me

[Bridge]
Yesterday is history
Tomorrow's a mystery
I can see you lookin' back at me
Keep your eyes on me
Baby, keep your eyes on me

[Hook]
Cause I don't wanna lose you now
I'm lookin' right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart
Is a space that now you hold
Show me how to fight for now
And I'll tell you baby, it was easy
Comin' back into you once I figured it out
You were right here all along
It's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me
I couldn't get any bigger
With anyone else beside of me
And now it's clear as this promise
That we're making two reflections into one
Cause it's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me, staring back at me

[Hook 2] x10
You are you are the love of my life

[Verse 3]
Baby you're the inspiration for this precious song
And I just wanna see your face light up since you put me on
So now I say goodbye to the old me, it's already gone
And I can't wait wait wait wait wait to get you home
Just to let you know, you are

[Hook 2] x8
You are you are the love of my life

[Verse 4]
Girl you're my reflection, all I see is you
My reflection, in everything I do
You're my reflection and all I see is you
My reflection, in everything I do

[Hook 2] x16
You are you are the love of my life

Florida Georgia Line - Cruise (Remix) ft. Nelly Video, Review and Lyrics

Review

"Cruise" is a song recorded by American country music duo Florida Georgia Line. It was released in August 2012 as the first single from their extended play It'z Just What We Do. It was written by group members Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard with Joey Moi, Chase Rice, and Jesse Rice. It is included on their first album for Republic Nashville, Here's to the Good Times, which was released on December 4.  By April
2013, "Cruise" had become the best-selling song by a country duo in digital history.

At the end of Nelly's music video for "Hey Porsche", a remix of "Cruise" plays, featuring Nelly. The Nelly remix, produced by Jason Nevins, was released to iTunes on April 2, 2013 and to pop radio on April 16, 2013.  The remix video featuring Nelly has over 9.3 million views as of July 2013.  The song reached a peak of No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and set an industry record for the slowest climb to the top five in the chart's nearly 55-year history, eclipsing the 30-week ascent of Lonestar's No. 1 "Amazed" in 1999-2000.  However, the record was soon broken by Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive", which peaked in its 43rd week.  According to Nielsen SoundScan, the Nelly version of "Cruise" has sold over 1.6 million copies and the country version has sold over 5 million in the US as of July 2013.

Lyrics

Baby, you a song
You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise

I got my windows down and the radio up, get your radio up
What up Nelly, alright
I got my windows down and the radio up, get your radio up

Yeah, when I first saw that bikini top on her
She's poppin' right out of the South Georgia water
Thought, "Oh, good Lord, she had them long tanned legs."
Couldn't help myself so I walked up and said,

Baby, you a song
You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise
Down a back road blowin' stop signs through the middle
Every little farm town with you
And this brand new Chevy with a lift kit
Would look a hell a lot better with you up in it (come on)
So, baby, you a song
You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise

I got my windows down and the radio up, get your radio up

Yeah, she was sippin' on Southern and singin' Marshall Tucker
We were falling in love in the sweet heart of summer
She hopped right up into the cab of my truck
And said, "Fire it up! Let's go get this thing stuck!"

[Nelly:]My windows down, my seats back,
My music up, and we ride.
Her legs up on my dashboard,
And it's just the way I like.
Hey, country girl, this country boy
Like everything about you.
Don't change a thing, no way.
You stay the same, I got you.
I like saw that, all that,
Head to toe you all that.
Tell ol' boy he call back,
Send a text say, "Fall back" 'cause
I can see you got a thing for the fast life.
So come on, shawty, let me show you what the fast like.
Whipping 'cross the border, Florida into Georgia.

'Cause, baby, you a song
And you make me wanna roll my, roll my, roll my, r-r-r-roll...

Baby, you a song
You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise
Down a back road blowing stop signs through the middle
Every little farm town with you
And this brand new Chevy with a lift kit
Would look a hell a lot better with you up in it (come on)!
Baby, you a song
You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise

I got my windows down and the radio up, get your radio up
Get those windows down and cruise,
I got my windows down and the radio up, get your radio up
Get those windows down and cruise,
I got my windows down and the radio up, get your radio up

Kanye West To Purchase Elvis Presley's Graceland

Graceland, the former Memphis home of Elvis Presley, may be scooped up by Kanye West, according to the Daily Star. A Source has indicated that Lisa Marie Presley is taking offers on the 13-acre property.

Estimates put the estate's value at about $85 million, a small price to pay, said the source, for Ye to secure his musical legacy.

"Kanye thinks owning Graceland and restoring it to its former glory would cement his place in showbiz history," the source said. "Kanye has always been intrigued by Elvis, especially his influence in bringing blues and gospel music to the masses."

Skeptics have noted that Lisa Marie is not keen to part with the property, insisting on hanging onto it a few years ago even as she sold off 85 percent of her dad's estate.

According to Ultimate Classic Rock, Graceland still pulls in over 500,000 tourists a year.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Same Love Video, Review and Lyrics

Review

“Strip away the fear, underneath it’s all the same love. About time that we raised up” – Macklemore
Most of us have encountered social controversy unto our own cultural background only to contradict those actions by negatively judging or staying voiceless with other major social issues. Macklemore highlights this voiceless phenomena of the American people, admitting he’s been a part of it. That is, until now. In a personal statement, he recognizes the courageous efforts of our president to become the first in office to support same-sex marriage. I repeat… our President – whom hip-hop moguls endorse; supports same sex marriage. If leadership means anything, the President makes history by clarifying support of basic civil rights for the American culture and its already changing attitude among young people. Yes, your favorite rappers need a leader too, and Obama it is.

Before Obama though, America was introduced to hip-hop with blatant homophobic verses from its pioneers, like GrandMaster Flash and NWA. In GrandMaster Flash’s “The Message,” he expresses that being poor in a hopeless community meant male kids destined to be jailbait “spending the next two years as an undercover fag…” and essentially being killed. Being listed as VH1’s 5th best song in hip-hop of all time makes it the clearest message of homophobic acceptability in hip-hop.

Eazy-E‘s “Nobody Move” goes “…put that gat to his legs, all the way up his skirt/ because this one faggot that I had to hurt…” From that standard, ‘gangster rap’ took over the ‘90s, leaving no room for a homosexual to be a part of.

Fast forward 10 years, while veteran rappers like Kanye West, T.I., Fat Joe, and Jay-Z have spoken out in support of same sex marriage by now, I don’t think it will be anytime soon for a veteran rapper (whom started his career around the subgenre of gangster rap) to open up about witnessing, or being involved in, a homosexual encounter. Being “real” gains the most respect with hip-hop fans, so to confess about something like that would mean danger to their career and credibility – especially once the media gets the story.
The hip-hop media will praise a rapper on their good day only to turn around and highlight a story title with connotations like “embarrassing” and “suspicious” to a picture questioning a rapper’s sexuality. However, whether the media likes it or not, hip-hop is evolving with the generation, and losing its fear of rejection. As albums like “The Chronic” and “Straight Outta Compton” remain classics in our crates, rounds of artists’ lyrical progression onto equal rights begin to buzz over social networks and notable interviews.

Today’s breakout artists like, A$AP Rocky, Lil B, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, and Macklemore, are working around the informational generation, where a new environment is demanding revolution for all aspects of social equality, like same sex marriage. These young artists also are working in a time where regional hip-hop is not as important to point out as purveying the message of who you are aesthetically and as an individual.

Now, where being different is fitting in, indie hip-hop artists are grabbing the biggest piece of the pie. Artists like Macklemore can go ahead and upload a socially conscious song like “Same Love” on Soundcloud any time of day with no pressure to stick to what’s “safe.” Tables have turned for artists and major record labels. Now, emerging artists find it better to satisfy their demographic by staying independent.

In “Same Love”, Macklemore’s 2 main concerns for the gay community are 1)the many people who are comfortable with staying quiet about everyday phrases like “faggot” and “homo.” 2) the Church’s judgement toward them:

“Calling each other faggots behind the keys of a message board…” -Macklemore

Some people who are not homophobic still say that word as a carefree callous; it is not a big deal at all for many – even though those words are rooting from the same hate raised of racism and wars. Macklemore expresses the need for us to speak up against the unjust choice of words often used, then heard, from gay kids who actually begin to hate themselves because of it.

“The right wing conservatives think it’s a decision that you can be cured with some treatment and religion.//Manmade rewiring of a predisposition//Oh no here we go, America the brave still fears what we don’t know//But we paraphrase a book written 3500 years ago, I don’t know…” -Macklemore

Churches often point out a famous Leviticus quote mandating, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination. Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable” However, the bible has many other mandates that do not fit with today’s society, including permission for fathers to sell their daughters into slavery and men not being able to grow beards. Macklemore raps out the Bible as “3500 years old, I don’t know…” as a way to end the verse, proving much skepticism from it. He calls the holy water poisonous since they use biblical justifications to deny gay communities.

Macklemore’s intention for this song is to help more people gain courage and spark change with dialogue. He hopes to add some positive stir to approve Referendum 74, which would make Washington the first state in the nation to defend marriage equality by public vote.

Liberation for the gay community in the hip-hop industry is at its wee start, and with that, its content will continue to shift to new reaches of empathy.

Lyrics

[Verse 1: Macklemore]
When I was in the 3rd grade
I thought that I was gay
Cause I could draw, my uncle was
And I kept my room straight
I told my mom, tears rushing down my face
She's like, "Ben you've loved girls since before pre-K"
Trippin', yeah, I guess she had a point, didn't she
A bunch of stereotypes all in my head
I remember doing the math like
"Yeah, I'm good a little league"
A pre-conceived idea of what it all meant
For those who like the same sex had the characteristics
The right-wing conservatives think its a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made, rewiring of a pre-disposition
Playing God
Ahh nah, here we go
America the brave
Still fears what we don't know
And God loves all His children
And somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written
3,500 hundred years ago
I don't know
-
[Hook: Mary Lambert]
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm [x4]
-
[Verse 2: Macklemore]
If I was gay
I would think hip-hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately
"Man that's gay"
Gets dropped on the daily
We've become so numb to what we're sayin'
A culture founded from oppression
Yet, we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other faggots
Behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate
Yet our genre still ignores it
Gay is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender and skin color
The complexion of your pigment
The same fight that lead people to walk-outs and sit-ins
Human rights for everybody
There is no difference
Live on! And be yourself!
When I was in church
They taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service
Those words aren't anointed
And that Holy Water
That you soak in
has been poisoned
When everyone else
Is more comfortable
Remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans
That have had their rights stolen
I might not be the same
But that's not important
No freedom 'til we're equal
Damn right I support it
[Trombone]
I don't know
-
[Hook: Mary Lambert]
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm [x4]
--
[Verse 3: Macklemore]
We press play
Don't press pause
Progress, march on!
With a veil over our eyes
We turn our back on the cause
'Till the day
That my uncles can be united by law
Kids are walkin' around the hallway
Plagued by pain in their heart
A world so hateful
Someone would rather die
Than be who they are
And a certificate on paper
Isn't gonna solve it all
But it's a damn good place to start
No law's gonna change us
We have to change us
Whatever god you believe in
We come from the same one
Strip away the fear
Underneath it's all the same love
About time that we raised up
-
[Hook: Mary Lambert]
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm [x4]
-
[Outro: Mary Lambert]
Love is patient, love is kind
-
Love is patient (not cryin' on Sundays)
Love is kind (not crying on Sundays)

Love Somebody by Maroon 5 - Video, Review and Lyrics

Review

“Love Somebody” is the fourth single from the American band Maroon 5′s fourth studio album Overexposed (2012). It was written by Adam Levine and Nathaniel Motte together with Ryan Tedder and Noel Zancanella, who also served as producers. “Love Somebody” is an alternative rock and dance-pop song and lyrically explores “salvation on the dance floor”. Music critics gave the song mixed reviews; some of them praised its composition, linking it to the works by British alternative rock band Coldplay, however, there was some criticism towards its production and Levine’s vocals. Following the release of the album, due to strong digital downloads, the song peaked at number nine on the singles chart in South Korea.

Lyrics

I know your inside, you're feeling so hollow
And it's a hard pill for you to swallow
But if I fall for you, I'll never recover
If I fall for you, I'll never be the same

I really wanna love somebody
I really wanna dance the night away
I know we're only half way there
But you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way
I really wanna touch somebody
I think about you every single day
I know we're only half way there
But you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way

You're such a hard act for me to follow
Love me today don't leave me tomorrow, yeah
But if I fall for you, I'll never recover
If I fall for you, I'll never be the same

I really wanna love somebody
I really wanna dance the night away
I know we're only half way there
But you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way
I really wanna touch somebody
I think about you every single day
I know we're only half way there
But you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way
Oh, oh, oh, oh

I don't know where to start, I'm just a little lost
I wanna feel like we never gonna ever stop
I don't know what to do, I'm right in front of you
Asking you to stay, you should stay, stay with me tonight, yeah

I really wanna love somebody
I really wanna dance the night away
I know we're only half way there
But you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way
I really wanna touch somebody
I think about you every single day
I know we're only half way there
But you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way
Oh, oh, oh, oh

You can take me all the way, you can take me all the way

Treasure Bruno Mars Video, Review and Lyrics

Review

“Treasure” is the third single from ‘Unorthodox Jukebox.’ And it continues the 80′s retro-vibe from the last two previously released singles from Bruno Mars. That right there is continuity exhibited by Bruno Mars in keeping all the singles following one theme.

Bruno Mars is acknowledging artists synonymous with the 80′s in the likes of The Police, New Edition, Billy Joel, Earth, Wind And Fire, and Michael Jackson. These respected and iconic artists have, in one way or another, clearly inspired and influenced greatly Bruno Mars in his latest studio-release.

When it comes to the music video for “Treasure,” everything from the choreography, stage lighting, and so on, serve as a heartfelt ode to that era. Watching Bruno Mars and his crew wearing the classic shiny, red outfits dancing and synchronized to a funk-inspired beat can make anyone who lived through the 80′s reminisce about those times or, at the very least, respect what he has done. Visually, the music video istricked out with set pieces such as a disco ball and vintage stage lights. Even the manner by which the instruments were set up in the background show the attention given to even the minutest of details and the small things do matter when it comes to making a music video.

Bruno Mars, in my opinion, has become one of the current mainstream artists who can almost perfectly and seamlessly get into a character–if you will–in any music video and portray it with the utmost sincerity. I would like to believe that it is his Filipino side to him that has shown that resilience to carry out a role with purpose.

What is the subject matter of “Treasure”? It is his declaration of love for his woman and making her feel that no one and nothing is above her and that she will always be the center of his attention.

Bruno Mars is not only a resilient artist but he is also proving to be one of the most versatile artists around as he was able to capture a moment of the 80′s without him looking like a parody of the said decade. Not everyone can pull this off without looking silly or appearing to be spoofing the 80′s (i.e. ”Last Friday Night” by Katy Perry). I hated that music video of hers! The way the music video utilized the cameo of Debbie Gibson, I found it disrespectful of everything artists like Debbie have accomplished in their careers. For the younger readers, Debbie Gibson was one of the very first American female teen pop-stars ever! Is that how you acknowledge or thank one of your predecessors who helped pave the way for pop music to become the dominant force it is now? Trust me when I say that 15 to 20 years hence, there will be a ton of things that can be spoofed about Katy Perry and that even won’t include her music yet.
Anyway, back to more substantial things and that is the single of Bruno Mars.

In “Treasure,” Bruno Mars doesn’t repeat the mistake of Katy Perry. The single and music video gives off a feeling to the listeners and viewers of his respect and acknowledgement of that decade. If he continues to keep up this pace– with all of his creative output mostly unfiltered and his artistry seemingly isn’t uncompromised or watered down–then, he might just become one of those select artists of today people would still be talking about in the future and would continue to be buying even his older albums. So, by all means, listen to this single and watch the music video.

Needless to say, Bruno Mars has delivered another solid single here! His winning streak continues and that makes him already ‘three for three’ in his singles that have become both a critical and commercial success from his second studio-release ‘Unorthodox Jukebox.’ Buy the album also!

Thumbs Up!

Lyrics

Give me your, give me your, give me your attention baby
I got to tell you a little something about yourself
You're wonderful, flawless, ooh you're a sexy lady
But you walk around here like you wanna be someone else
Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh

I know that you don't know it, but you're fine, so fine
Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh

Oh girl I'm gonna show you when you're mine, oh mine

Treasure, that is what you are
Honey you're my golden star
I know you could make my wish come true
If you let me treasure you
If you let me treasure you

Pretty girl, pretty girl, pretty girl you should be smiling
A girl like you should never look so blue
You're everything I see in my dreams
I wouldn't say that to you if it wasn't true

Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh

I know that you don't know it, but you're fine, so fine

Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh

Oh girl I'm gonna show you when you're mine, oh mine
Treasure, that is what you are
Honey you're my golden star
I know you could make my wish come true
If you let me treasure you
If you let me treasure you

You are my treasure, you are my treasure
You are my treasure, yeah, you you you, you are
You are my treasure, you are my treasure
You are my treasure, yeah, you you you, you are

Treasure, that is what you are
Honey you're my golden star
I know you can make my wish come true
If you let me treasure you
If you let me treasure you

Get Lucky official Daft Punk Featuring Pharrell Williams Video, Review and Lyrics

Review
“Get Lucky” is a song by French house music duo Daft Punk, co-written by and featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. It is the lead single from Daft Punk’s fourth studio album Random Access Memories. Before its release as a single, “Get Lucky” was featured in television advertisements broadcast during Saturday Night Live, after which Rodgers and Pharrell announced their involvement in the track. Small excerpts also appear throughout the promotional video series The Collaborators.

Musically, “Get Lucky” is a disco and funk song while lyrically, according to Pharrell Williams, the song is about the fortune of finding chemistry with someone and not just about sexual chemistry. Following a leak days earlier, the single was released as a digital download on 19 April 2013. “Get Lucky” has since received acclaim from critics and was commercially successful, reaching the top ten in the music charts of over 28 countries.

“Get Lucky” was completed over the course of approximately 18 months. Daft Punk first met Nile Rodgers at a listening party in New York for the duo’s 1997 debut album Homework, and became friends thereafter. The duo acknowledged Chic’s influence in the song “Around the World” and had great respect for Rodgers. He noted however that a series of near misses and scheduling conflicts had delayed their chance of collaborating. The duo eventually invited Rodgers to the Random Access Memories sessions at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. This coincidentally was the studio where the first Chic single had been recorded, in the neighborhood in which Rodgers grew up.
Lyrics
(Verse 1)
Like the legend of the phoenix
All ends with beginnings
What keeps the planet spinning
The force from the beginning

(Prechorus)
We've come too far to give up who we are
So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars

(Chorus)
She's up all night 'til the sun
I'm up all? night to get some
She's up all night for good fun
I'm up all night to get lucky
We're up all night 'til the sun
We're up all? night to get some
We're up all night for good fun
We're up all night to get lucky

We're up all night to get lucky (x4)

(Verse 2)
The present has no living
Your gift keeps on giving
What is this I'm feeling?
If you wanna leave I'm ready (ahh)

(Prechorus)
We've come too far to give up who we are
So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars

(Chorus)
She's up all night 'til the sun
I'm up all? night to get some
She's up all night for good fun
I'm up all night to get lucky
We're up all night 'til the sun
We're up all? night to get some

We're up all night to get lucky

We're up all night to get lucky (x4)

(Bridge)
We're up all night to get lucky (repeated throughout)

Nicki Minaj: Topless on Instagram!

Nicki Minaj has already gone topless on Twitter.

And now she's topless on Instagram. VERY topless!

The former American Idol panelist took a few moments away from blasting Random yesterday to release her puppies online, preventing the world from getting a full view of them due to her strategically-placed black hair.

Minaj didn't include a caption with the image because, really, what is there to say?

Especially when we've actually seen plenty more of the artist in her music video nip slip from March. Nicki Minaj, everyone... not exactly shy!

New John Mayer Album Features Katy Perry and Frank Ocean

John Mayer's sixth studio album, Paradise Valley (due out August 20th) features a pair of high-profile guests: his increasingly frequent collaborator Frank Ocean, and his on-again-off-again girlfriend Katy Perry.

Perry appears on a country-tinged mid-tempo track titled "Who You Love"; Ocean lends his voice to a brief, poetic track Mayer has already debuted with a lyric video titled "Wildfire."

Mayer publically acknowleged the role Perry has played in his life when he returned to the stage in July, telling the crowd at Milwaukee's Summerfest, "She was so patient" and took the time "to continue to get to know me and love me" while he suffered from vocal issues. The two have not collaborated prior to her appearance on Paradise Valley.

Ocean, however, has been working with the singer-guitarist for some time. Mayer plays on the Odd Future crooner's track "Pyramids" and joined Ocean on SNL.

"Frank is such an interesting, deep, touched, wonderful guy," Mayer told Rolling Stone in January. "They don't make a lot of other Frank Oceans, and the guy is looking for another. And the way that his mind works is craving the same frequency that he's able to communicate on, and I think he's just searching for that kind of depth that he has inside of himself in someone else. He's fascinating to me. He's so great."
Mayer was even willing to say a few words about Perry during that interview, telling us, "I'm quite happy. I'm happy in all aspects of my life. I'm very happy in all aspects of my life."

Justin Timberlake - Suit & Tie with JAY Z Video, Review & Lyrics

Review

This is not the stunning comeback single many had hoped for, but it is solid work and not a significant disappointment either. Justin Timberlake embraces R&B sounds that date back to 70s classics from Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield. "Suit and Tie" is not instantly irresistibly catchy, but it should wear well.

Pros

  • Deep groove courtesy Timbaland
  • Justin Timberlake's confident upper range vocals

Cons

  • Lack of musical heft
  • Lack of a memorable hook

Description

  • Written by Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Shawn Carter, Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon, and James Fauntleroy
  • Produced by Timbaland
  • Released January 2013 by RCA

Guide Review - Justin Timberlake - "Suit and Tie" featuring Jay-Z

Justin Timberlake sings in "Suit and Tie" he wants to, "show you a few things." What we do hear is his familiar falsetto voice singing over deep R&B grooves sounding like he is indeed having fun in the studio. However, many listeners will instantly wish he had delivered something a bit more meaty than this.

Producer Timbaland has delivered a bass heavy groove punctuated frequently by horn section blasts. The mix is not populated with the myriad percussive sounds that animated FutureSex / LoveSounds. Instead it sounds like both may have been spending time listening to Justin Timberlake's own soul heritage as a native of Memphis, Tennessee.

Jay-Z's rapping here doesn't add a lot to the mix other than an additional marquee name. With "Suit and Tie" it is good to hear Justin Timberlake making music again. This is not the arresting return we heard when he dropped "SexyBack" in 2006. However, hopefully, "Suit and Tie" will ease us into the world of his upcoming album The 20/20 Experience with greater riches yet to come. With FutureSex / LoveSounds, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland put down a pop music landmark. The jury remains out on whether they can repeat that feat or even if that is their aim.

Lyrics

[Intro: Justin Timberlake]
I be on my suit and tie shit, tied shit, tied
I be on my suit and tie shit, tied shit
Can I show you a few things
A few things, a few things, little baby cause
I be on my suit and tie shit, tied shit
I be on my suit and tie shit, tied shit
Let me show you a few things
Let me show you a few things

[Ad lib: Timbaland]
Wait a minute. You ready, JT

[Verse 1: Justin Timberlake]
I can't wait til I get you on the floor, good-looking
Going hot so hot, just like an oven
And owww burn myself, but just had to touch it
It's so fire and it's all mine
Hey baby, we don't mind all the watching
Cause if they study close, real close
They might learn something
She ain't nothing but a little doozy when she does it
She's so fire tonight

[Hook: Justin Timberlake]
And as long as I've got my suit and tie
I'mma leave it all on the floor tonight
And you got fixed up to the nines
Let me show you a few things
All pressed up in black and white
And you're dressed in that dress I like
Love is swinging in the air tonight
Let me show you a few things
Let me show you a few things
Show you a few things about love
Now we’re in the swing of love
Let me show you a few things
Show you a few things about love
Hey

[Verse 2: Justin Timberlake]
Stop, let me get a good look at it
So thick, now I know why they call it a fatty
Shit so sick got a hit and picked up a habit
That's alright, cause you're all mine
Go on and show 'em who you call daddy
I guess they're just mad cause girl, they wish they had it
My killer, my Thriller, yeah you're a classic
And you're all mine tonight

[Hook]

[Ad lib: Justin Timberlake]
Hey, get out ya seat, Hov

[Verse 3: Jay-Z]
All black at the white shows
White shoes at the black shows
Green card for the Cuban linx
Y'all sit back and enjoy the light show
Nothing exceeds like excess
Stoute got gout from having the best of the best
Is this what it's all about? I'm at the rest-
...aurant with my rant disturbing the guests
Years of distress, tears on the dress
Try to hide her face with some makeup sex
This is truffle season
Tom Ford tuxedos for no reason
All Saints for my angel
Alexander Wang too
Ass-tight Denim and some Dunks
I'll show you how to do this young!
No papers, catch vapors
Get high, out Vegas
D'usses on doubles, ain't looking for trouble
You just got good genes so a nigga tryna cuff you
Tell your mother that I love her cause I love you
Tell your father we go farther as a couple
They ain't lose a daughter, got a son
I show you how to do this, huh!

Imagine Dragons - Radioactive Video, Review & Lyrics

Meet the Band

Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds' mind is fully blown. After years of grinding it out in half-empty Leno and Kimmel, and a single, "Radioactive," that's the biggest rock hit of the year.
clubs, the Las Vegas band is facing a sold-out world tour, appearances on

"I'm just trying to keep my head from spinning too much," says the frontman. "Everything has been crazy."

The group, who sound like a mixture of Mumford & Sons and Coldplay, have spent the last year and a half on a grueling world tour. "There's not much glamour to it," Reynolds says. "We're on a bus where every bunk is full with a bunch of stinky dudes. You wake up, go straight to to an interview, do interviews all day and then do the show at night. You repeat that in every city. It's hard to keep it fresh sometimes."

Lyrics

Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa
I'm waking up to ash and dust
I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust
I'm breathing in the chemicals
(inhale) (exhale)

I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
Whoa

I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive

I raise my flags, don my clothes
It's a revolution, I suppose
We're painted red to fit right in
Whoa

I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
Whoa

I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive

All systems go, the sun hasn't died
Deep in my bones, straight from inside
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive

Miley Cyrus "We Can't Stop" Video, Review and Lyrics

Review

We're just going to come out and say it: we love Miley Cyrus. Why? Because since unveiling her feisty, post-Disney image and new single, she's become one of the few popstars out there unafraid of a bit of controversy. In the last fortnight alone, she's twerked her way into the hearts of the hip-hop crowd, advised Justin Bieber to take a break from the spotlight and shown off her new collection of mouth jewelry.

Of course, her new carefree way of living is neatly summed up in 'We Can't Stop', which is essentially Katy latest revelation, things are only going to get rowdier from here.
Perry's 'Last Friday Night' with teeth. "To my home girls here with the big butt/ Shaking it like we at a strip club," she sings over fuzzy bass and sparse piano thuds, before declaring: "We like to party/ Dancing with Miley." And if we're to believe her

Lyrics

"We Can't Stop"

It's our party we can do what we want (no drama)
It's our party we can say what we want (Mike will made)
It's our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can sing what we want

It's our party we can do what we want
It's our party we can say what we want
It's our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can sing what we want

Red cups and sweaty bodies everywhere
Hands in the air like we don't care
'Cause we came to have so much fun now
Bet somebody here might get some now

If you're not ready to go home
Can I get a "Hell, no!"? (Hell no)
'Cause we're gonna go all night
'Til we see the sunlight, alright

So la da di da di
We like to party
Dancing with Molly*
Doing whatever we want
This is our house
This is our rules

And we can't stop
And we won't stop
Can't you see it's we who own the night?
Can't you see it's we who 'bout that life?

And we can't stop
And we won't stop
We run things, things don't run we
Don't take nothing from nobody
Yeah, yeah

It's our party we can do what we want
It's our party we can say what we want
It's our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can sing what we want

To my home girls here with the big butt
Shaking it like we at a strip club
Remember only God can judge ya
Forget the haters 'cause somebody loves ya
And everyone in line in the bathroom
Trying to get a line in the bathroom
We all so turned up here
Getting turned up, yeah, yeah

So la da di da di
We like to party
Dancing with Molly*
Doing whatever we want
This is our house
This is our rules

And we can't stop
And we won't stop
Can't you see it's we who own the night?
Can't you see it's we who 'bout that life?

And we can't stop
And we won't stop
We run things, things don't run we
Don't take nothing from nobody
Yeah, yeah

It's our party we can do what we want
It's our party we can say what we want
It's our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can sing what we want

It's our party we can do what we want to
It's our house we can love who we want to
It's our song we can sing if we want to
It's my mouth I can say what I want to
Say yeah, yeah, yeah, ehh

And we can't stop, yeah
And we won't stop, oh
Can't you see it's we who own the night?
Can't you see it's we who 'bout that life?

And we can't stop
And we won't stop
We run things, things don't run we
Don't take nothing from nobody
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ehh

One Direction - Best Song Ever Video, Review, and Lyrics

Review
One Direction do seem to enjoy indulging in references to classic rock and punk music. "Live While We're Young" brought back memories of the Clash's "Should I Stay Or Should I Go," and the band covered Blondie's classic "One Way Or Another." Now the opening for the new single "Best Song Ever" is a dead ringer for the Who's "Baba O'Riley (aka Teenage Wasteland)," and for fans of British punk, that single cover for "Best Song Ever" might look familiar. There is more than a passing similarity to the cover of the Jam's 1980 album Sound Affects. Fortunately, One Direction does choose to pay homage to truly outstanding music.

Once we are past the opening memory of the Who, Harry Styles leads us straight into the song with words of awestruck romance. The title appears in the chorus as a memory of the "best song ever" providing the soundtrack for a night dancing with an unforgettable girl. The production here is beefed up giving a pleasing rock feel to the track while remaining pure boy band pop. Liam Payne gets the best and silliest line of the song singing, "Said her name was Georgia Rose, and her daddy was a dentist..." "Best Song Ever" is designed to bring smiles to the faces of pop fans across generations. The "you know I know" bridge provides additional moments of unabashed fun.

"Best Song Ever" serves as both part of the promotion for the One Direction film One Direction: This Is Us due to hit theaters August 29, 2013 and the lead single for the upcoming third album by the group titled Where We Are. It works well in both contexts consolidating the best of past music by One Direction into one song. Playfulness, charm, and a bit of the cheeky populate "Best Song Ever." The group's multitude of fans will deservedly rejoice.

Lyrics

Harry:
Maybe it's the way she walked
Straight into my heart and stole it
Through the doors and past the guards
Just like she already owned it

Zayn:
I said can you give it back to me
She said never in your wildest dreams

All:
And we danced all night to the best song ever
We knew every line
now I can't remember
how it goes but I know
that I won't forget her
'Cause we danced all night to the best song ever
I think it went
oh oh oh
I think it went
yeah yeah yeah
I think it goes, oh

Liam:
Said her name was Georgia Rose
And her daddy was a dentist

Harry:
Said I had a dirty mouth (I got a dirty mouth)
But she kissed me like she meant it

Niall:
I said can I take you home with me
She said never in your wildest dreams

All:
And we danced all night to the best song ever
We knew every line
now I can't remember
how it goes but I know
that I won't forget her
'Cause we danced all night to the best song ever
I think it went
oh oh oh
I think it went
yeah yeah yeah
I think it goes, oh

Louis:
You know, I know, you know
I will remember you
I know, you know, i know
You'll remember me

Zayn:
You know, I know, you know
I'll remember you
I know, you know
I hope you'll remember how we danced
How we danced

Harry:
1, 2, 1, 2, 3

All:
And we danced all night to the best song ever
We knew every line
now I can't remember
how it goes but I know
that I won't forget her
'Cause we danced all night to the best song ever
Then we we danced all night to the best song ever
We knew every line
now I can't remember
how it goes but I know
that I won't forget her
'Cause we danced all night to the best song ever
I think it went
oh oh oh
I think it went
yeah yeah yeah
I think it goes, oh

Zayn:
Best song ever
It was the best song ever
It was the best song ever
it was the best song ever
